Rejoice in her passing and celebrate her life.

Lil, 88, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2018 in Cobble Hill, B.C. Those who knew Lil share memories of time filled with love, playfulness, prayer, song, tears, and laughter. Lil was pure of heart, loved life and enjoyed her family and friends immensely. She is now united with her loving husband George who passed away far too young and remains in our hearts forever.  Lil lived in Riverview, N.B. for 45 years and in 2014 moved to beautiful Cobble Hill, BC to live her final years with her daughter Jackie and daughter-in-law Shawna.

Born at sea off the coast of Newfoundland in 1929 to John and Lucy Murphy, Lil and George were married on Merasheen Island in 1952.  Shortly after, they left Newfoundland to begin their journey together, raising six wonderful children as they lived, loved and made many friends at military bases across Canada and in the United States.

In 1969, their final posting was Canadian Forces Base Moncton and it was there they decided to call Riverview their home.  Lil enjoyed her work at CFB Moncton (Number 5) cafeteria for many years.  Her kindness and big heart were legendary. The moment you met Lil, you felt as though you had known her your whole life…that you truly mattered. Depending on your life story, she was a mother or a friend. Lil’s nurturing heart radiated love for everyone she met and she was known as Mom to many.

After her retirement, she was a regular walker on the Riverview Riverfront trail.  She loved to play cards and thoroughly enjoyed her weekly card games with her good friends Bill and Shirley Haley.  A faithful member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Riverview, Lil was a long time member of the choir...second row, far right.

Her capacity for love was so evident with her six children, ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She had many names... Lillian, Lil, Lilly, Mom, Momma, Mommy, Gramma Lil; Granny; Grammie; Grandma; Mamoo; Meemoo.  She answered to them all with a big smile, hugs and kisses.  She loved to travel, visiting her family in Europe, the United States (including Disney World) and almost every province in Canada.  Her last trip, for her 85th birthday, was to the Vatican in Rome.  During her final days, Jackie often said prayers with her. In with her prayer cards was a St. Peter’s Square post card with Lil’s hand written note "celebrated my 85th birthday in Rome, had a blessing from Pope Francis, also a Mass...it’s all like a dream but it’s real."

The day before her passing she shared a special time with her daughter Jackie, driving through the back roads of Cowichan Valley, a stop for ice cream, with the sun on her face and the fresh sea breeze flowing through her hair. In her final hours, Mom was anointed by Father Sean Flynn and passed away in the arms of her daughter and daughter-in-law.

We want to thank her Riverview friends Fred (and the late Cathy) Kennedy and Pat Whitehouse for the weekly drives to Mass and Timmy’s.  Also thanks to her BC caregivers VIHA Homecare and to Barb, her home hairdresser.  A special thank you for the exceptional care she received from Dr Paul Harris, Dr Reynolds and all the staff at Acacia Ty Mawr Home.  Your kindness to our Mom is truly appreciated.  God love her.

Lillian was predeceased by her husband George; her parents John and Lucy Murphy; her infant twin sister Winnifred; her sister Blanche and brother Cyril.  She is survived and will be sadly missed by her brother William James Murphy (Doris) Wasaga Beach ON; her children Brian Wilson (Teresa) Kingston ON, Jocelyn Sparks (Neil) Riverview NB, Glendora Boland (Ron) St. John’s NL, Shelley Bernabei (Ettore) Kingston ON, Jacqueline Wilson (Shawna) Cobble Hill BC and Gerald Wilson (Jane) Moncton NB; her grandchildren Lina, Chris, Allison, Kate, Meghan, Anthony, Nadia, Isaac, Cailin and Caroline; her great grandchildren Lillian, Islay, Brooke, Tayven, Nora, Felix, Tony, Frankie and Joey.  Eternally loved and remembered forever.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd., Riverview, NB E1B 0E4 (869-2007) and will take place in May 2018.  Visitation will be held at Cobb’s Funeral Home on May 14, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00pm with a funeral Mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on May 15, 2018 at 11:00am. The interment will take place in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe, NB. In memory of Lil, donations can be made to Friends of The Moncton Hospital, The IWK or your charity of choice.
