Richard Steeves of Moncton, and formerly of Riverview, passed away at the Moncton Hospital on Monday, March 19, 2018 after a long illness.  Born in October of 1933, in Moncton, he was the son of the late Milford and Marjorie Jean (Crandall) Steeves.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley (Russell) Steeves of Moncton, son Brian Russell Steeves of Saint John, brother Steadman Steeves (Joyce) of Moncton, sister-in-law Hazel Pike of Fredericton, two nieces and four nephews, and close family friend Darren McLeod of Saint John.  He was predeceased by his infant daughter Susan Elizabeth Steeves.

He retired after 37 years with CNCP Telecommunications (now Bell MTS), in 1988. Richard always loved the company of his close family and friends and never lost his sense of humour and quick wit.  For several years, Richard looked forward to square and round dancing at several Moncton area clubs with his wife Shirley and their many fellow dancers.  Richard had fond memories of growing up on an apple orchard in Lower Coverdale as well as from the times he spent helping out whenever he could on his father-in-law’s dairy farm in Salisbury.  He never lost his love of the land and continued to be an avid gardener at his home in Riverview until his illness prevented him from continuing with his passion.  For many years, Richard was a huge fan of numerous British television series, getting great joy from the comedies, documentaries, dramas and mysteries.  He continued to take a great deal of interest in the affairs of the world right up until a few months before his passing.

Respecting Richard’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.  In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the charity of your choice.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 330 Whitepine Rd., Riverview, NB., E1B 0E4 (869-2007).
