Alice Joyce (Crowley) Jones of Royal Court Riverview, formerly of St Andrews, passed away at the Moncton Hospital on Sept 9, 2018. She was the wife of the late Ven. Archdeacon John F.N. Jones of St Andrews and was born on Dec 24, 1928 in Fredericton to the late Arthur E. and Lillian A. (Billings) Crowley.
Surviving in addition to her daughter Dr. Shani Jones and son-in-law David Moore of Moncton are her sister Phyllis Strang and sister-in-law Betty Crowley of Fredericton, as well as several nieces and nephews and their families. Alice was predeceased by her 3 brothers George, Richard, and Arthur Crowley, and sister Marion Rowan of Fredericton. Although never blessed with human grandchildren, the loves of her life were her three grand dogs, Welsh corgis Jenny, Taffy, and Annie.
Alice graduated from FHS in 1946 and worked as a secretary until 1950 when she began her real career as an Anglican priest’s wife, eventually moving to St Andrew’s by-the-sea in 1961 where she resided until 2008. She was a woman of deep faith and involved in every aspect of parish life including Sunday School, Choir, ACW (president and past president), Junior and Girls’ Auxiliary, and unpaid parish secretary. Her husband was the first to admit that her lifelong support of him was the primary reason for any success in his ministry and other endeavors. One of her biggest thrills was being a key organizer for the service held at All Saints Church when the Prince and Princess of Wales visited St Andrews in 1983. In addition to her parish duties Alice was an associate member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Passamaquoddy Branch #8 of the Royal Canadian Legion, and board member of the Ross Museum and Passamaquoddy Lodge Foundation.
Alice loved living at Royal Court and made many friends with both residents and staff during the past 10 years. The family wishes to thank all staff and residents who helped this fiercely independent woman deal with her blindness and other health issues. Because of these problems Alice spent a great deal of time at the clinics, offices, (and sometimes wards) of The Moncton Hospital. We also wish to thank the nursing and medical staff who looked after her, particularly Doctors Christine Telfer, Vicki Taylor, Megan McGarry, Gordon Dow, Troy Sitland, Mohammed Al-Karain, Krista Kemp, and during her last illness Doctors Ravneet Comstock, Paul Goobie, and Elivia Morrison. Thank you as well to the nursing staff of 4600, and Nursing Supervisor Susan Titus for all your efforts and kindness.
Visitation will be at Cobb’s Funeral Home, 330 Whitepine Rd., Riverview (869-2007) on Thursday Sept. 13th from 6-8 pm.
