The children of Ruth Killam, age 92, are saddened to announce
her passing on Monday, November 12, 2018 at her residence at Kenneth E
Spencer Memorial Nursing Home.
Born in Saint John, January 28, 1926, she was the daughter of
Wm. Frederick and Jannie (Messer) Clifford. She was the last surviving
member of her family, having been predeceased by her parents and by
her siblings Millard, Willis, Elizabeth Ellingwood, Mildred Cole and
Vella Lee.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Lawrence
Killam, who passed away in 2002. In 1954 they built their home on
Seventh Street in Moncton and she remained in their home for more than
50 years. When she left her home, she moved in with her daughter
Deborah in Riverview and later to Spencer Memorial Home in December
2017 and received excellent care while she was there.
Ruth and Lawrence had four children who all survive her. She
will be sadly missed by her children David (Dianna), Gary (Luanne),
Deborah Arsenault (Frank) and Sheila Poirier (Charles) all of the
Greater Moncton area. Her family continued to grow to include ten
grandchildren Robin Killam (Lise), Christine Chatham (Neil), Darlene
Blakney (Rusty), Jacques Killam (Anjel), Ian Killam, Bonnie Hopper
(Joette Collier), Bobby Arsenault (Lil), Tricia Poirier (Greg Maltby),
Stephen Poirier (Tanya), and Jessica Poirier (Shane Thibodeau). She
also leaves behind 19 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great
grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Ruth is also
survived by her dear friend of more than 65 years, Doreen (Dodi) Kelly
and by former neighbors who have remained good friends, Sherry Smith
and Linda Shaffer.
Ruth worked at Eaton’s Catalogue Department during
the Christmas season from the mid 50s until the mid-1970s. She formed
many long lasting friendships while working there. Ruth and Lawrence
had many friends and entertained their friends and family at their
camp in Rosevale, Albert County then later at their cottage in Pointe
du Chene. Many happy memories were made at these summer
homes.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends at
Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine
Road, Riverview (869-2007) on Wednesday from 6-8 PM. A service
celebrating Ruth’s life will take place from the funeral
home chapel on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Scott
Ryder officiating, a reception will take place following the service.
