Norman Lambert Jones, 87, of Moncton, passed away quietly in his sleep surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, November 12, 2018, at the Moncton Hospital. Born in Moncton, he was the son of H. Beecher and Ella (Hull) Jones.

Norman was a man of many interests and had a wide-ranging curiosity.  His lifelong interest in learning, started as a member of Scouts Canada and continued as both a Cub and Scout Leader. He also enjoyed reading, history, genealogy, fishing, curling, wood-working, carpentry and puttering on most anything at home or at the camp at Forks Stream or the cottage at Cocagne Cape.

He especially enjoyed spending time with family, children, step-children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Over the course of 50 years, Norman built a distinguished career in the insurance industry.  He was president of Jones Insurance Service Ltd. until his retirement. He served as President of the Insurance Brokers Association of New Brunswick, and served as National Education Chair for the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada. In this role, he led the introduction and implementation of the Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker program (CAIB), including writing the original Risk Management section of the course textbook.  This program remains the leading education program for insurance brokers in Canada. For many years, he taught evening classes at the Insurance Institute of New Brunswick and volunteered for 27 years as a lecturer at the Qualification and Refresher Course, which was the licensing course for insurance brokers in Atlantic Canada.

During his career, he earned the Canadian Certified Insurance Broker designation, considered the highest educational designation in Canada for Insurance Brokers as well as the Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional designation.

Throughout his life, Norman answered the call to community service. He served as President of the Kiwanis Club of Moncton as well as on the boards of the Atlantic Baptist Foundation, Permanent Settlers Association and Mayors Prayer Breakfast, among others. Additionally, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Greater Moncton Men’s Probus Club and Moncton Curling Club.

Norman will be lovingly remembered by his wife Ruth (Bacon); his 4 children, Malcolm Jones (Elizabeth) of Deep River, Ontario, Christine Korotash (Demond) of Russell, Ontario, Stephen Jones (Darlene) of Riverview and Carole Jones of Dartmouth; his 4 step-children, Stephen Baker (Connie) of Riverview, Scott Baker of Moncton, Susan Baker (Daniel Bourque) of Moncton and Stephanie Baker-Humphrey (Scott) of Moncton; his 13 grandchildren, Meaghan Jones (David), Kathryn Fallowfield (Colin), Andrew Jones (Kenzie), Graham Jones, Joshua Woods, Jordana Woods, Dillon Baker, Samantha Godin-Baker, Cameron Humphrey, Jeremie Bourque, Stephanie Caissie, Thomas Caissie, and Meagan Caissie; his 5 great grandchildren Jacob and Cole Jones, Arthur Fallowfield, Lucas Felker and Madilyn Matthew; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Apart from his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Henry Jones, and his grandson, Zachary Woods.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Moncton City Hospital for their care and kindness to Norman.
