Joan Smith

1934-2020

Joan Smith

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Joan Smith.  Beloved wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grand Mother on Sunday, March 22 at The Moncton Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Joan leaves to mourn her husband Jim Smith. She was the love of his life for 64 years.  Also left to mourn are daughters Tina (John), Cindy (Dave). Grandchildren Kayla (Pette), Ryan (Janice), James (Melissa) Ashley and great-grandchildren Kate and Carson. Also, to mourn is her Mother in Law Sarah Smith age 107.

Joan was born in Bay Roberts Newfoundland to Solomon and Blanche (Flemming). She was so proud of her Newfoundland Heritage and would talk about Newfoundland to everyone she met.

Mom spent many years travelling the world with her husband as a military wife while caring for 2 young children. This was a role that she cherished, and she talked often of the great life she had and the places she had been and the people she had met along the way.

Mom was a very spiritual lady.  Her faith was her passion in life, as was her daily Bible readings and singing in the church choir. Mom was also a very social person who made many friends throughout her life. She enjoyed a good Newfie singalong.

Joan was pre-deceased by her parents, Blanche and Solomon Martin, Brothers Jim, Varick, Clyde, and Father-in-law Murray Smith.

Following private family visitation cremation will take place. A celebration to honor her life will be held at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in Riverview for immediate family members only. The funeral arrangements entrusted to Cobbs Funeral Home, 330 Whitepine Road, Riverview (869-2007). The family would appreciate any donations in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer's Society. Online condolences can be expressed at www.cobbsfuneralhome.ca
