It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jeannine (Savoie) Lamontagne on June 17th 2020, at the Moncton Hospital. Jeannine was born in Chandler, QC. Her family moved to Rogersville NB in 1939, and in her high school years, she ventured off to St George de Beauce, QC to complete her studies in Home Economics. Her first teaching job was in Atholville, NB and there, on a blind date, she met a young sailor called Magella who was working in Campbellton at the Canadian Forces Recruiting Centre. That blind date led to marriage in 1959. Shortly thereafter, Magella was posted to CFB Halifax NS so they moved to Timberlea, NS and started their family.
Jeannine was very involved in her community. She was a member of the CWL at Sacred Heart Parish and she was well known for her sewing skills. She worked as a seamstress for Sears for many years in addition to sewing from home. Jeannine was a natural teacher and taught many ladies in her community how to sew. She also taught French classes to adults. She always welcomed people into her home and loved gatherings with friends and family.
In 1985, Jeannine and Magella were transferred to Quebec City with the Canadian Forces, and Magella took his retirement while Jeannine worked at a seniors home, and then for a catering company. They spent eight years there before deciding to leave the big city for a slower pace in the scenic Gaspésie. They purchased a home in Carleton-sur-Mer where Jeannine realized her dream to open a Bed and Breakfast. She named it "Gîte la mer Lamontagne" and she proudly operated it for 15 years. She always told people that it was the best job she ever had. She also found time to get involved in the Seniors Club of Carleton-sur-Mer, and she held the position of President for eight years. She worked tirelessly to raise funds for the club by organizing bus trips to Quebec City for shopping and to attend the theatre. Jeannine was a business minded lady who owned several properties in Carleton-sur-Mer which she rented and then sold.
Jeannine was all about family and the highlight of her year was our annual ‘Savoie Christmas in July’ family reunion. This tradition started in 1970 and she never missed a year.
Besides her parents, Guilmond and Agnes LeBlanc, and her stepmother, Thérèse Kearney, Jeannine was predeceased by her husband, Magella, her young son, Pierre, and her brothers, Guy and Gerald.
She will be sadly missed by her children, Michelle (Shawn) of Edmonton, AB, Lisette (Tony) of Riverview, Denyse (Warren) of Peterborough and Pierre of Bathurst. Also, her grandchildren, Nicholas, Adam, Renée, Logan, Oliver and Andre, and her great grandson, William. She is also survived by her sisters, Therese and Simone, as well as her brothers Roger (Rachel) and Ronald (Liz).
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Cobb’s Funeral Home in Riverview, 330 Whitepine Road, Riverview (869-2007). A funeral will be held in Carleton-sur-Mer, QC at a later date.

C’est le cœur lourd que nous vous informons du départ de Jeannine (Savoie) Lamontagne, décédée le 17 juin 2020 à l’Hôpital de Moncton. Jeannine est née à Chandler (QC). Sa famille déménage à Rogersville (NB) en 1939. Jeune femme, Jeannine déploie ses ailes vers St-Georges-de-Beauce (QC) pour y poursuivre ses études secondaires en économie familiale. Elle décroche un premier emploi d’enseignante à Atholville. C’est là, lors d’un rendez-vous arrangé, qu’elle va rencontrer un jeune marin du nom de Magella qui travaille au Centre de recrutement des Forces canadiennes de Campbellton. Ce premier rendez-vous a mené à leur mariage en 1959. Peu de temps après, Magella est affecté à la base des Forces canadiennes à Halifax (NS). Ils s’installent à Timberlea (NS) et ont leurs premiers enfants.
Jeannine est très engagée au sein de sa collectivité. Elle est membre de la Catholic Wowen’s League (CWL) de la paroisse du Sacré-Cœur et est reconnue pour ses talents de couturière. Elle est couturière pour Sears pendant de nombreuses années et fait aussi de la couture à la maison. Enseignante naturelle, elle apprend à beaucoup de femmes à coudre. Elle enseigne aussi le français aux adultes. Sa porte est toujours ouverte et elle adore les rencontres avec la famille et les amis.
En 1985, Jeannine et Magella déménagent dans la ville de Québec. Magella prend alors sa retraite des Forces canadiennes et Jeannine travaille dans une résidence pour aînés puis pour un traiteur. Ils resteront huit ans à Québec avant de décider de quitter la grande ville pour la tranquillité de la belle Gaspésie. Ils achètent une maison à Carleton-sur-Mer et c’est là que Jeannine réalise son rêve d’exploiter un gîte qu’elle nomme Gîte La Mer La Montagne. Elle a fièrement tenu ce gîte pendant 15 ans. Elle disait toujours aux gens que c’était le meilleur emploi qu’elle avait jamais eu. Elle trouve aussi le temps de participer au sein du Club de l’âge d’or de Carleton, et elle en est la présidente pendant huit ans. Elle travaille sans relâche pour recueillir des fonds pour le club en organisant des voyages à Québec où magasinage et théâtre sont au rendez-vous. Jeannine avait un sens inné des affaires. Elle était propriétaire de plusieurs propriétés à Carleton qu’elle louait puis vendait.
La famille compte énormément pour Jeannine. Le fait saillant de l’année est le Noël annuel des « Savoie » lors de la réunion de famille en juillet. Cette tradition a commencé en 1970 et Jeannine n’a manqué aucune rencontre.
Outre ses parents, Guilmond et Agnes LeBlanc, et sa belle-mère, Thérèse Kearney, Jeannine a aussi perdu son mari Magella, son fils Pierre décédé en bas âge, ainsi que ses frères Guy et Gérald.
Elle laisse dans le deuil ses enfants, Michelle (Shawn) d’Edmonton (AB), Lisette (Tony) de Riverview (NB), Denyse (Warren) de Peterborough (ON), et Pierre de Bathurst (NB). Elle était la grand-maman de Nicholas, Adam, Renee, Logan, Oliver et Andre, et l’arrière-grand-mère de William. Elle laisse aussi dans le deuil ses sœurs Thérèse et Simone, ainsi que ses frères Roger (Rachel) et Ronald (Liz).
Les arrangements funéraires ont été confiés à Cobb’s Funeral Home à Riverview. Des funérailles auront lieu ultérieurement à Carleton-sur-Mer (QC).
