It is with love we announce the passing of Robert (Buzz) Betts.  Dad passed at his home in Riverview on

Sunday, October 10, 2021. Born in Kingston, ON., he was the son of the late Reginald and Frances (Devlin) Betts and brother to Peter and Arthur.

He was a parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Riverview as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus council 9270. Buzz was self employed most of his working career, owned Eastern Sales Ltd. and was a member of the United Commercial Travellers Assoc. He was known for his friendly smile around town, specifically at the ball fields, the arenas and the courts (ball courts that is!)

Here is what we want to say about Dad…..  he left everyone he met, friends and strangers, with a wave, a joke and the instruction to Keep Smiling!  Dad kept smiling until the end.  As late as last week he told us gathered around his bed, to love each other and to look after each other: he looked after us and so we take that as pretty sound advice.  He loved his family, relatives scattered about, his community, and, the lessons and the fun gained through sports.  He played just about every sport going (though not cricket as he revealed last week!). Dad was the recipient of several awards for his involvement in community and sports in NS and NB - too many to list here. He showed by example what a good citizen looks like.  We will miss Dad a lot.  So much of who we are has been shaped by the fine example he showed.  So Dad…… we love you, many people love you …heh… Keep Smiling!

He will be dearly missed by his daughters Brenda Betts (Bill), Sue Betts, Donna Betts (Robert), sons; Peter and Steven (Laura), his girlfriend for the last 15 years, Sylvia Leger, his cherished grandchildren: Emily, Olivia and Luke, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife and mother of their children, the former Audrey (Bobbie) Burke.  As well as his family, Dad was blessed by many friends who will also miss him.

The family will be receiving relatives and friends at Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd., Riverview (869-2007) on Wednesday from 6-8 PM, with parish prayers taking place from the funeral home at 7:30 PM. The funeral mass celebrating his life will take place from the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Fatima Dr, Riverview on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at 11:00am with Fr. Phil Mulligan presiding. Donations in his memory may be made to Pro Kids.

*** Streaming instructions following***

Going to our website

People can go to www.setmoncton.com and there, they’ll see the notice for the funeral and they just click on the picture and it will take them to our Facebook page and they wait there for the live-stream to start.

Going directly to our Facebook Page

People can go to the parish grouping's Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SaintElizabethoftheTrinity on Thursday morning around 10:50 a.m. and wait there – the live-stream video will start about 5-10 minutes before the funeral starts, to give everyone a chance to get connected.  (They can also log into their own Facebook and search for 'Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity parish').

Using YouTube on a phone, computer, tablet

People can also wait until the funeral video has been uploaded to YouTube and then go and watch it from there.  They would just go to our church website (www.setmoncton.com) about one hour after the funeral is finished and see the YouTube link there or even easier for them, you could post the link on your own website.  I'll send you that link as soon as the upload completes.

Using YouTube on a TV

If someone has a TV that gives them access to YouTube, they can just search in YouTube for ‘SET Moncton’ and they'll see our YouTube Channel – we use a picture of Father Phil to make it easier to find.  All the Masses that we’ve live-streamed in the past few months are there and, as the newest video, Buzz’s funeral will be there at the top.
