It is with great sadness that we share with you the death of a beloved husband, Pap, Opa and "Dutchie".

Jan was born in The Netherlands and immigrated to Canada, his beloved country, in 1963. Following a difficult start in the first few years, he led a full and happy life in his new country, despite his medical limitation.

Jan found total fulfillment in his professional life when he started working with the Shaw Group in Moncton. Jan really loved and respected his colleagues and mentors including Alan and Wayne.

He and Anke, his beloved wife of 51 years, enjoyed cooking, gardening, making wine, smoking salmon, entertaining friends and sharing stories. Jan was fiercely proud of his children and grandchildren, especially that his legacy continues in the van den Berg boys.

He will be missed greatly by his loving wife, Anke. He was predeceased by his son Hansje. Papa will be missed by Heidi and Leo, Mike and Jenn, and Mark and Tammy. He will be missed as Opa to Taeren, Tessa, Elias, Seth, Jakob, Benjamin and Isaac.

The family would like to send sincere appreciation to Jan’s Rheumatologist, Dr. Peter Docherty as well as the wonderful staff in The Moncton Hospital Palliative Care Wing and the Neurological Intensive Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

A Celebration of Jan’s life will take place on his birthday, June 30, 2019 with the time and location to be announced at a later date.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd., Riverview, NB (869-2007). Donations can be made in Jan’s memory to Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation or The Arthritis Society. Online condolences may be expressed to Anke and the family at www.cobbsfuneralhome.ca

Friends and family are more than welcome to stop by the house in the new year to visit with Anke and the family.
