Lena Louise Tower, nee Rathburn, known as Barb to most, of Upper Coverdale NB, went peacefully to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, October 8th, 2021. She was born in Hampstead NB, the daughter of the late Alexander and Kathleen (nee VanTassel) Rathburn.

First and foremost, Barb was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. It was impossible not to feel loved and cared for in her presence. She spent many weekends bringing bags of barbie dolls and chocolate bars up north to spoil her granddaughters.

As a young woman, Barb worked at the Cotton Mill and Ganongs’ Chocolate Factory.  She loved sharing stories of her time there. She was later diagnosed with tuberculosis and spent several years at the sanitorium, where she met the love of her life and future husband, Garnet.

After she married Garnet, her time was filled caring for her family. She loved to cook and bake, and her specialities included homemade macaroni and cheese, and chocolate cake from scratch. She loved getting out for a walk, which usually included a shop, at the mall.

In her last years she was lovingly cared for by her daughter and son-in-law in their home. She could often be found sitting in the family room faithfully reading her Bible and talking to the Lord. She was blessed to have several granddaughters and great grandchildren who lived close by and visited often. She loved to spend time sitting at the kitchen island playing play-doh with the little ones and being included in the hustle and bustle of the always busy kitchen.

Barb was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Garnet Tower; her parents and five siblings; and great-granddaughter, Reghan Lena Geldart.

Barb is survived by her only daughter, Carolyn Gallant (Michel); four granddaughters, Rachel Geldart (Kirk), Ashley Arsenault (Patrick), Michelle Gallant (Justin Wong), and Melissa Leaman (Brendan); and great grandchildren, Nathan, Rowyn, Keaton, Fitz and Kipp.

A private visitation and graveside service was held for immediate family only. She was laid to rest at Alderwood Cemetery next to her husband. Arrangements entrusted to Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd., Riverview (869-2007).
