We sadly announce the peaceful passing of Brenda Harder of
Osborne Corner, formerly of Ottawa Ontario, at The Moncton Hospital on
Saturday, March 4, 2023. Born in Ottawa, she was the daughter of the
late Ernest and Anne (Byles) Stevenson.
Brenda started her career as a primary school teacher, mainly
working with younger children from kindergarten to Grade 2. Then hired
by Department of National Defence Schools, she taught the children of
Canadian military members in Germany, where she met her husband, Ron,
who was flying helicopters there. While their kids were young, Brenda
cared for them at home while occasionally working as a substitute
teacher, before going back to work for a few years once they were in
high school. In her spare time, she volunteered for several
organizations, loved to garden, cross country skied, and enjoyed many
walks - especially to and in the mall. She also loved to travel and
plan travel; she and Ron visited many parts of the world together,
including almost all of Europe, Thailand, China, New Zealand and the
US, and a particularly memorable trip to Haida Gwai (Queen Charlotte
Islands).
She is survived and loved by her husband of 47 years Ron,
daughter Samantha (Rudy) Owen of Massachusetts, son Chris (Zdena)
Harder of Osborne Corner, grandchildren Corban, Connor, Josh, Daniel,
and Isabelle, and several close cousins.
Her arrangements have been entrusted to Cobb’s
Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd, Riverview
(506-869-2007). Her family will host a time of remembering open house
at their home (60 Osborne Corner Road) on Saturday 11 March from 1 to
4 PM, and will have a formal Celebration of Life at St Helens Anglican
Church at 1234 Prestone Dr in Ottawa at 2 PM on Saturday 18 March.
Donations made to the Alzheimer Society, or to Hope for the Future
Ministries, a charity run by a family friend in Tanzania, in her
memory would be greatly appreciated.
