It
is with sadness that we announce the passing of David O. Smith of
Riverview NB, on September 4th at the age of 82 years. He was born in
Titusville, NB to the late Delia and Oscar Smith. The date on which he
passed was a special date for him and his wife, Marion (Barter) Smith.
It was their 58th wedding anniversary and they were able to spend some
memorable and precious moments together just before he went to be with
his Lord and Saviour.
Dave
loved his family dearly; his children, Kimberley (Andrew) Colpitts,
Jennifer (David) Britton, Jeffrey (Nicole) Smith, his grandchildren,
Emily (Morgan), Megan (Lucas), Amy (Elliot), Alyssa, Rebekah (Micah),
Jonathan, Matthew, Evan, Caleb, and great-grandchildren, Jerrica and
Elijah. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Louise Smith, and
Lorena McWhirter, and brother-in-law, Kenneth Floyd, also by several
nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by sisters, Melva
Clarke (late Norman), Doreen Floyd, Lola Steeves (late Wilfred), and
by his brother, Raymond Smith.
After graduating from high school in Hampton, NB in 1958, Dave
attended Saint John Vocational School. From there, he went to work for
CN Telecommunications, and in 1976, moved on to a job with Canadian
Press/Broadcast News. In his retirement years, he drove cars for the
Adesa car auction.
Dave was a member of Highfield Baptist Church and served in many
capacities in church life throughout the years. He was indeed a good
and faithful servant from the time of his youth. Dave and Marion liked
to travel, and drove across Canada on three occasions, enjoying our
vast country and connecting with relatives and friends along the way.
Many vacations to the USA and day trips were enjoyed as
well.
If
desired, memorials may be made to Highfield Baptist Church, Moncton
NB, or to a charity of your choosing, or carry out an act of kindness
to someone. We want to take this opportunity to thank so many of you
for your kindness to us over Dave’s long and difficult
journey with Parkinson’s disease. Also, we would like to
thank the amazing staff who recently cared for Dave as he spent his
final days in Palliative Care at the Moncton Hospital. We appreciate
each one of you who helped to brighten the
day.
His
family will be receiving friends and family on Sunday, September 10,
2023 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Cobb’s Funeral Home and
Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd. Riverview (869-2007). A funeral
service will take place the following day at 1:00pm at the funeral
home. Interment to be held in Fair Haven Cemetery.
