It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Val Burke-Wright at The Moncton Hospital on September 14, 2023. Born in St. Oliver, she was the daughter of the late Donat and Thérèse (Vautour) Mazzerolle.
She will be deeply missed by her beloved husband Tom, with whom she shared 40 excellent years – 30 of them legal and the other 10 a great deal of fun. Also left to mourn her loss are her son Gerry Burke, her stepdaughters Debora Wright (Jansen Somers), and Kellie Wright (Jason Briggs), sisters Linda, Janice, Clara, and Marie-Paule (Bob), brothers Adrien, Omer, Paul (Charline), and Gilles (Danielle), grandchildren Jordan, Hope (Taylor), Dustin, Kyla, and Alyssa, honorary grandchildren Samuel and Maryssa, many nieces and nephews, and her special lifelong friends Joyce Cormier, Yvette Cormier, and Denise Surette. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her infant sibling Yvon.
Val moved to Moncton in the late 60’s seeking work and night life associated with the big city. Val met her beloved Tom in the 80’s and during Tom’s employment assignments they made certain to cover Canada from coast to coast, loving the West coast, everything in between and especially falling "hook, line and sinker" for Newfoundland. The pair eventually settled back in Moncton but continued their love of travel by enjoying many wonderful cruises on the sea. Along their journey, Val held several customer service roles as well as dabbled in hairdressing however she spent most of her life as a homemaker, taking great care of her family. While she hated trying to figure out what was for supper each night, Val was a fantastic cook. She enjoyed baking, especially at Christmas, which was her favorite time of year. Val was also an avid reader and she loved decorating the house until it was just perfect to then change her mind and start the whole process over again. Val loved animals and enjoyed the company of 3 dogs and 2 cats over the years.
Val’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the Neuro ICU and palliative care units at The Moncton Hospital, her favorite doctors Dr. M. Alvarez, Dr. T. Theriault, and Dr. B. Chinnathurai for their excellent loving care as well as David Ford and his PJC team in Riverview.
Honoring her wishes, cremation will take place at Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd, Riverview (869-2007). A private family gathering will take place in her hometown at a later date. Donations in her memory made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the SPCA, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by her family.
