With his family by his side, Leo Bastarache went to his
heavenly home on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at The Moncton Hospital,
surrounded by those he held dear. Born in Rexton, Leo was the son of
the late Lionel and Ida Bastarache, a man of simple pleasures and
reliable, unwavering care.
Leo's days were filled with life's modest joys. Initially
hesitant to embrace camping, Leo was gently encouraged by his wife
Noella and it soon became one of the things he enjoyed most. With his
two dogs Rosie and Poppy nearby, Leo found contentment in
life’s humble delights. Whether it was the comforting
strumming of his guitar, dominating in darts, or sharing laughter with
family and friends over a game of washer toss, these everyday moments
brought him joy.
A true handyman, Leo was known for his knack for fixing
things. With calloused hands and a determined spirit, he could mend
just about anything, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in
need.
To his family, Leo was more than just a father and husband;
he was their rock. His wife Noella and daughter Emily held a special
place in his heart, and he took immense pride in being the best papa
he could be. He really did cherish life's simple pleasures, including
wearing the t-shirts collected by his daughter Emily from her travels,
each one a treasured reminder of her adventures and the woman she had
become.
As we gather to honour Leo's life, let us remember him for
the simple, kind-hearted man he was. His love and presence will be
deeply missed by his wife Noella Gautreau, daughters; Emily and Chloe
Gautreau (Mario), sisters: Dorina Bastarache (Florent), Alvina
Morrison (Dean) and Andrea Michaud (Joel), brothers; Leandre, Luc,
Laurie (Diane), Louis and Leonard, as well as several nieces and
nephews. He will forever be treasured in the hearts of all those who
knew and loved him. We’re sure he and Meldune are enjoying a
steak in heaven already.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends at
Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330
Whitepine Rd., Riverview (869-2007) on Tuesday from 6-8 PM
