Susan (Sue) Stultz, 71, of Riverview NB, passed away
peacefully on April 8, 2024. Born in Moncton, she was the daughter of
the late E. Garfield and Freda (Sherwood) Hicks.
Besides her husband of over 53 years, Bruce, she will also be
deeply missed by daughters Misti Murray (David) and Mandi Groslouis
(JP); grandchildren Joel and Julie Murray, all of Riverview NB;
sisters Karen Price (Richard) of Moncton NB; Brenda Bourquin (Brian)
of Victoria BC; and Ellen Mullin (Hal) of Riverview, NB; brother Mark
Hicks (Trudy) of Yellowknife, NWT; brother-in-law Rocky Stultz
(Claire) of Riverview NB and several nieces and
nephews.
Besides her parents, Sue was predeceased by her brother
Lowell and sister Linda both of Victoria BC as well as an infant
brother and an infant sister.
Sue wore many hats- the Turkey Lady, Legion member,
Children’s wish giver and even multi award
recipient. However, to her family she was an amazing wife,
the best mom and an awesome Baba. Sue loved her family
fiercely. She was always first in line to help, support,
encourage and love. Her grandchildren were everything to her
which was shown by the endless meals, treats, talks, and sleepovers
when they were younger … even their friends call her
Baba. As soon as she heard that name you could see her melt
with love. Sue loved a good campfire. Sitting with
family around a fire was one of her happy places. There was
undoubtedly a hotdog being roasted, stories of past adventures and
that unmistakable laugh of hers which was contagious.
As a business owner of an Irving Mainway for over 25 years,
Sue made many lifelong connections with customers, their families and
the community around her. It was one of these connections
that the annual Sue Stultz and Local 999 Moncton Firefighters
Association Turkey Drive was born. Sue had a passion for
helping people (including seniors and veterans) and her countless
hours of volunteer work for the community in various capacities
resulted in the presentation of several awards and
acknowledgements. Most notable are the Order of Moncton, the
Muriel Fergusson Award, the Caring Canadian Award,
Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, the Paul Harris Fellow
International Award, International YMCA Peace Medal, both the
Queen’s Golden and Platinum Jubilee Medal, and the Friends
of the Moncton Hospital Foundation wall "Friends for
Life". She was also featured as "Maritimer of the
Week" by ATV.
Sue was proud to serve as MLA for Moncton West, Minister of
Social Development and Minister of Government Services in Premier
David Alward’s government. She took her tenure
very seriously and loved learning all she could so she could make a
difference.
Growing up in a large family, it would be later in life while
reflecting back on her childhood, that Sue would truly realize the
simple possessions/family bond people take for granted.... are
actually luxuries in the eyes of others. Sue used those reflections to
maintain the driving force that forged the road for her success and
why she devoted much of her time in helping others.
To the many people who personally knew Sue, she remained not
only honest but humble and was quick to give credit to those
surrounding her in any given situation.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Extra Mural
and especially nurse Maxie for her tender special care and compassion
to Sue.
Donations made to the Medical Imaging Department through The
Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by
Sue.
