Patrick James (Pat) McLaughlin passed away at home with his family by his side on Friday, April 19, 2024 at the age of 63.  Born in Saint John N. B. he was the son of the late William Robert (Bill), 2010 and Marie Elizabeth (Betty nee Buckley) McLaughlin, 2023.  Pat leaves behind his best friend and wife Debbie just short of 41 years married, son Steve (Renelle), daughter Kelly (Jason) Greeley and five amazing, adored grandchildren Jacob, Connor and Emma Greeley, Chloe and Alexa McLaughlin.  Held close to his heart were his four siblings Bob (Lynn) McLaughlin, Joanne (Leon) Dubois, Gary (Lisa) McLaughlin and Mike ( Wendy) McLaughlin.  Aside from his parents, Pat was predeceased by his brother Danny McLaughlin, 1977 and his sister Mary Beth Widdershoven, 2006.  In addition, Pat cherished the lifelong relationships with Debbie's siblings and the "outlaws" Kathy (Donnie) Walker, Jim (Colina) Lutes, John (Kari-Lynn) Lutes, Carol Anne Lutes and Rob (Monique) Lutes.  Pat's extended family includes aunts, uncles, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Pat loved his family deeply, evidenced in so many ways.  Pat and Deb were a team enjoying many golf trips, camping excursions and travel adventures.  From golf games with Steve to sharing an incredibly cooked turkey dinner with Kelly, the conversations warmed his heart.  Pat had a very special relationship with both of his children, his connection to them was solid.  He was so proud.  From hockey rinks to gymnastics competitions, lacrosse arenas to basketball courts, handball courts to soccer fields, he loved watching his five grandchildren compete.  His grandchildren were his world motivating him to continue on through those tough days.  He was so proud.

Pat worked the majority of his career in banking, retiring in 2016.  The relationships he grew at TD were forever connections.

Pat had a deep love of carpentry, learning the art from his mentor Bert MacKenzie back in the 70s.  In retirement, he spent many hours planning, building and puttering, culminating in the completion of a hand cut, milled lumber, cedar sided bunkhouse in Upper Rexton.  The cottage on Betty Lane was one of his favourite places- wandering the woods, giving free 4-wheeler rides to his grandchildren and peacefully star gazing, pointing out the Big Dipper, relaxing by a roaring campfire.

Pat was adorned with the nickname "McGyver".  He was a pure handyman and could "jimmy" just about anything.  Nothing was out of place in his garage.

He was a sharp card player from crib to 45s.  Truth be told, he liked to win.

Pat had a life long passion for hockey, crowning his career with a great group of guys in the "Nifty Fifties" Hockey League in Riverview.  An avid Leafs fan, he never lost hope in bringing home another Stanley Cup.

Pat was a long time member of the Moncton Golf Club, playing a game he loved.  So many memories, stories shared, games played with people that meant so much to him.  Strong relationships ensued with his golf buddies, now one short of a foursome.

The team at the Leo Richard Oncology Unit were extraordinary.  From the initial greeting by the ever friendly Monique Benoit, to Pat's dedicated, outstanding nurse Majella Gallant fully engaged in the journey with us, to all the hard working, professional nurses in the chemotherapy unit, our heartfelt thanks.  Dr. Joel Gray became a part of our family.  His skill, knowledge and creativity gave Pat a reason for hope.  Pat was so well cared for.  We are forever indebted to them for their ongoing kindness, compassion and care.

A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2024 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm with a sharing of stories by Mike McLaughlin at 4:30pm at Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd. Riverview, NB.
