Robert Chester Edward
Sharpe, 31 January 1936, passed away at Moncton Hospital on 12
December 2024. Even these last days were spent with teasing
comments for his caregivers and chats and sharing memories with his
family. Always grateful and courteous, he thanked each
person who showed him kindness.
Robert was born almost
89 years ago in Fredericton and spent his first 6 years on the
much-loved family farm in Queensbury. Later the family moved
to Fredericton where Robert attended school until his final years when
he graduated from Southampton Regional High School.
Robert was the son of
the late Lulu and Chester Sharpe. He was predeceased by his
brothers Bertram and Dale and sister Betty as well as sister-in-law
Helen Sharpe and brothers-in-law Chester Corey and Edison
Cummings. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Marjorie
Anne (Burden) Sharpe, children Sherry Sharpe (Ian Richardson),
Katherine Sharpe (Ken Lamb), Michael Sharpe (Maureen Woodrow) and
Steven Sharpe; treasured grandchildren, Rose Boone (Rik Boone), Neal
Sharpe-Schmid (Brittany Cote), Jesse Sharpe-Schmid (Kirsten Bedwash),
Connor Sharpe-Macmillian, Kieran Sharpe (Sophie Wark), Rylan Sharpe;
step-grandchildren Kayla Richardson (Max Warwick), Derek Richardson,
and Chelsea Lamb. He has recently been enchanted by
great-grandchildren Margaret Elizabeth Boone and Thomas Boone, Luna
Warwick and Archer Warwick, and very special friends Madelyn Guthro
and Nicholas Guthro.
Robert’s
career covered 28 years with Dominion Stores Ltd. where he began as a
carry-out boy at age 15 and progressed to store supervisor of ten
supermarkets in North and South-Eastern New Brunswick. As
that career came to an end, Robert, with his wife Marjorie, partnered
with the Blizzard Family of Sussex and developed two very popular and
successful retail locations for Bairds Traditions in Riverview and
Moncton.
Upon retirement,
Robert and Marge continued with their lifelong interest in hiking,
camping, and travelling. He especially loved baseball and
hockey and was an avid fan of the Moncton Wildcats, Moncton Senior
Baseball, and especially his beloved Toronto Blue Jays and
ever-hopeful, Leafs.
Robert coached T-ball
and Pee-Wee Hockey when his children were young, led a boy’s
group at St. Paul’s United Church, volunteered with the
Albert County Food Bank, the Dobson Trail-Fundy Footpath and helped
build the first 13 Habitat for Humanity homes.
He faithfully attended
his church and especially loved old-time country and the Gospel music
he learned as a child. He dearly loved and was proud of his
family as well as a very special niece, Elaine (Corey)
Huntington.

Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at St.
Paul’s United Church, Cleveland Avenue, Riverview, NB, with
