It is with broken hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Alexandria Wortman of Halifax and formerly of Riverview, which occurred in Halifax on Monday, January 27, 2025. Born in Moncton she was the daughter of Jamie and Sue (Milley) Wortman of Riverview.

In 2021, she graduated from Riverview High School. Following her graduation, Alex continued her post secondary education at Kings and Dalhousie University and was looking forward to receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree this coming spring. Alex discovered a love for working with children during her time with the YMCA and was excited about continuing her education and becoming a teacher. She had a thirst for knowledge and learning which began when she was a young child and blossomed in adulthood.

Alex was known for her big heart and passion for others.  She abhorred social injustice or inequity and passionately supported and defended any marginalized, under-privileged or at-risk group or individual. She would fiercely advocate for human rights, diversity, and inclusion at any opportunity.

Some of Alex’s fondest memories were time spent at River Run campground, camping, swimming, boating, and playing games with her friends and family. She loved her adopted City of Halifax, as well as all the great friends she made there.

Aside from her parents, she will be deeply missed by her brother, Jay, maternal grandmother, Kaye Lothian, paternal grandmother, Bonnie Beers (Dave, deceased), paternal grandfather, Jim Wortman (Donna), aunts and uncles: Heather Milley, Craig Wortman (Carrie), Lisa Hebert (Jeremy) and Craig Ivey, her cousins, as well as her special friend Liam Coady. She was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Larry Milley and her aunt, Jodi Ivey.

The family will be receiving relatives and friends at Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd., Riverview on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 3-5 PM, for a time to celebrate her life.

The family appreciates donations in Alex’s name be made to:  M.A.D.D., CMHA Nova Scotia, Rainbow Action Project, Shelter Nova Scotia, Safe Passage (NWAC) or PAWS (SPCA)
