Sheaves, James (96)- on September 13, 2025 our father, our Captain stood on the bridge of his own ship and sailed to his eternal home.  At the age of 6 years Dad was introduced to a life at sea.  His first voyage was aboard a schooner carrying coal to St. Pierre. His next voyages took him from Newfoundland to the Caribbean on the rum running ships where fish was exchanged for rum.  With hard work and further education he moved from deck hand, to mate, to captain.  He sailed the coasts of Newfoundland and Labrador retiring his last voyage on the Port aux Basques to North Sydney gulf run.  During retirement he enjoyed his days attending his gardens.

Predeceased by wife Ina (Gignac) Sheaves (2012), son (James) Baxter (2006), and grandson Jean-Paul Gignac (2005).  Leaving to mourn his son Bob Gignac (Shirley) of Gander, NL; two daughters: Gogi Greeley (Dennis), Riverview, NB, and Georgina Lockyer, St. Albert, AB; sister Kathleen Payne of Port aux Basques, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A special thank-you to the staff at Grass Homes for the loving care provided to our Dad, your Poppa.  When you hear ‘HELLO!’ may you remember him.  Thank you to all who provided entertainment, he enjoyed your visits. Thank you to Pastor Tim, affectionately known as Pastor Kim, a man he called his friend.

We would like to recognize his primary care provider Vickie, NP and team at Greater Moncton Health Centre for addressing his health care needs.

Thank you to family and friends for their visits and video calls.  A very special thank you to our family friend Edna Biddiscombe who took care of ‘Skipper’.

At Dad’s request cremation has taken place with no visitation or funeral service. Mom and Dad will be laid to rest at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Port aux Basques at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Cobbs Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 330 Whitepine Rd., Riverview, NB (506-869-2007).
