It only took a few
minutes in the presence of Linda to realize she was a woman deeply
intuitive to the feelings and needs of everyone around her. She had a
gift for making others feel heard, accepted, empowered and sincerely
loved.
The daughter of Aubrey and Etta Card,
Linda grew up in Dorchester NB with her brother Malcolm in a home of
honest work, quiet generosity and harmless pranks. She made lifelong
friends and didn't shy away from planning a theme party or performing
in skits that she'd written using funny excerpts from the Reader's
Digest.
After business school she worked in
Moncton and married her rock, Winston Peter Steeves. They raised four
mindful children who over 50 years witnessed a marriage lived simply,
with empathy and service for others. They treasured time at their
cottage, a place where friends were always welcomed as family. Sunny
days were spent outdoors and Linda took pleasure in packing picnic
lunches and doing an annual fishpond for her grandchildren.
In midlife, Linda grew fragrant roses, traveled
with Peter, and discoved her artistic being through writing and
quilting. She created and gifted over one hundred quilted pieces.
Linda was an active volunteer in her church and community until
Peter's passing, and has remained a quiet sounding board and special
friend for many.
Earlier this year,
on Valentine's day, Linda planned herself an 80th birthday party and
was celebrated by her complete family of 34. She set up a photobooth,
cut cake with her great-grandchildren and watched with joy and
fulfilment as four generations laughed and reconnected. It was exactly
as she wanted.
Her legacy and love remains
with her children, Brenda Berry (Kevin), Andrew (Karen), James
(Elizabeth), and John (Jen), as well as twelve grandchildren, four
great-grandchildren, and her brother Malcolm Card (Patty).
We are grateful for the kindness and compassion shown by
the Dumont nurses in 3D and 3F, and Dr. Marc Savoie.
Honoring her wishes arrangements has been entrusted at Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Road, Riverview (869-2007). A private interment will follow. Donations made to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by her family.
